Cricket
For the seventh consecutive year Bahrain’s shipping community organized the ‘Freight Forwarders Cricket Tournament’, which took place at the Batelco Recreation Centre in Hamala on the 2nd day of Eid Al Fitr. The money raised during these matches was presented to Seafarers Association.
2006 Winners
Intercol Shipping Division team have been the winners for the last four consecutive years and twice were the runners-up. This year, Intercol’s Shipping Division played against GAC in the semi-finals, after winning a toss and dictating GAC to bat first. Not soon after though,did Intercol find themselves chasing sixty one runs after fiveovers.
Ijaz Ali Nasar played brilliantly in the firstpartofthematch,but was unfortunately bowled out resulting in Intercol losing a couple of quick wickets. The finaloverbroughtsomeintense excitement with just two balls remaining with four runs needed and no wickets in hand. Anil Alex Mathew hit a brilliant six and led Intercol into the finals. The final match saw the Intercol team throw a winning toss which put Inchcape Shipping Services first in line to bat. A finishing forty-run total after the first inning was what Intercol had to chase in order to win. They faced the same situation in the semi-finals with only two balls remaining and two runs needed for victory. Samir Bandokar was the star player of the finalmatch, as he scored a brilliant four off the last ball which resulted in Intercol’s match title.
Intercol once again cradled the cup and proved themselves as champions. The whole team contributed to the winning of the match, but if it weren’t for Sameer, Ijaz Ali Nasar and Alex, Intercol would possibly not have been able to achieve their goal.
